Mr. Robinson has more than two decades of experience as a practicing attorney and currently focuses his practice primarily on civil litigation and public sector and governmental services. He has experience handling a wide variety of matters including labor and employment disputes, construction and contract disputes, business litigation, and issues involving municipal, family and educational law. Mr. Robinson has extensive experience in representing public sector clients, including having represented numerous municipalities and/or school districts in various capacities. Mr. Robinson has been general counsel to the Retirement Board of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Rhode Island and the Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Rhode Island since 2007, where he has provided advice and counsel with regard to the numerous issues, claims and lawsuits that affect a large and complex state agency.

Mr. Robinson is admitted to practice law in all state and federal courts in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Mr. Robinson obtained his J.D., cum laude, from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2000, where he also served as the Articles Editor for the Law Review. He obtained his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts in 1997. Mr. Robinson is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He presently serves as the Chairman of the East Providence Planning Board, and has served on the Board for almost two decades.  He also serves on the Roger Williams University School of Law Board of Directors.

  • Koback v. Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island, 252 A.3d 1247 (RI 2021). Successfully overturned a decision of the Workers’ Compensation Court awarding fees and costs to a prevailing party in an appeal from a decision of the State Retirement Board. The Supreme Court held that the Workers’ Compensation Court lacked the authority to make such an award.
  • The City of Cranston v. International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 301, et al., 230 A.3d 564 (RI 2020). Successfully defended the State Retirement Board in a legal challenge regarding the nature of retirement in connection with a member’s separation from the employment relationship.
  • Lang v. Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island, 222 A.3d 912 (RI 2019). Successfully obtained a ruling from the Rhode Island Supreme Court that the Cancer Benefits for Fire Fighters Act did not contain a presumption that all cancer in fire fighters is work-related.
  • Grasso v. Raimondo, 177 A.3d 482 (RI 2018). Successfully obtained a ruling from the Rhode Island Supreme Court that a retired police officer receiving a disability pension is subject to annual ongoing independent medical examinations, and to having his pension adjusted based upon post-retirement employment.
  • Genao v. Litton Loan Servicing, L.P., 108 A.3d 1017 (RI 2015). Successfully obtained a ruling from the Rhode Island Supreme Court that the maker of a promissory note lacked standing to challenge an assignment of the note from the payee where the maker was not a party to the assignment and the subject property was commercial.
  • Croce v. Cawley, 828 A.2d 519 (RI 2003). Successfully obtained a ruling from the Rhode Island Supreme Court affirming a Judgment of the Rhode Island Family Court awarding client sole custody of minor child.
  • Carny v. Provident Funding Associates, L.P., 100 Mass. App. Ct. 1104 (Unpub. 2021). Successfully obtained a ruling from the Massachusetts Court of Appeals affirming verdict in favor of mortgage holder after trial with regard to the validity of foreclosure sale.
